Dresden is a good starting point to visit some beautiful towns of Saxony, as the delightful Moritzburg, the famous Meissen, Pillnitz and its historic royal residence or natural environments such as the Ore Mountains and Saxon Switzerland.

Moritzburg
Moritzburg is a pretty town located on the banks of a lake just 12 km from Dresden. On an artificial island there is a baroque castle where Kammermusik is held in August, a renowned classical music festival.

Meissen
Meissen is just 30 km from Dresden. It is famous worldwide for its refined porcelain. The old town is dominated by Albrechtsburg - a majestic fortress – and by the Gothic cathedral that stands next door. During May, the ancient streets of the city host the popular Altstadfest, and in September, after harvest Weinfest is organized, the white wine festival of the city.
 

Pillnitz
Pillnitz is about 10 kilometers away. It is a town renowned for its beautiful castle. The Abode of the eighteenth century comprises the Water Palace, the Palace of the mountain and the new Palace.

Bautzen
The legendary Bautzen is to the north-east of Dresden. The old Sorbian city shows a fifteen century face, many buildings and residences that help make this charming town that deserves at least a walk.
